When Life Gives You Lemons

“When life gives you lemons, make lemonade”

I’m sure all of you have heard this saying! It's when you take something sour like lemons or a "negative" and turn it into something sweet like lemonade or a "positive".

Things have come up lately that are out of my control and are just a bit "sour" for my liking. It's so easy to question with each situation, "How am I supposed to do this" or "what if this happens?" I've tried to take each thing in stride and deal with it the best way that I can.

Despite having some lemons in our basket, we decided to make lemonade this week.

We birthday shopped!

We wore fun hats to school!

We ate in the toy box!

We took daddy/daughter selfies!

We got a ton of candy at the local homecoming parade!

and we relaxed like a boss!

What "sweet" lemonade we made!

Testy Tuesday

It's that time again. Just below are the pet peeves that are driving us crazy this week. Add your own in the comments, or ditto someone else. Commiserate with each other, blow off steam and go on your merry way.

Kylee: When you're too uncomfortable to sleep well.

Stephanie: when you and hubby go to sleep and wake up in the middle of the night to find 3 little people have joined you on a double bed.

Jill:  When you can’t find the remote anywhere!!

Now it's your turn. What's bugging you?

The Newest Boyd Lady

If you paid attention to the blog this summer (and really, why wouldn't you?), then you know that this past June we had an addition to the family when Paul married Shelby.

We asked Shelby if she wanted to join us in blogging, but for now she's decided to pass. So instead, we decided to officially introduce her to our readers by interviewing her. Kylee, Stephanie and I each came up with a bunch of questions which Shelby graciously answered. Well, she answered most of them.

So with questions and answers in no particular order of importance, let me introduce you to Shelby Boyd:

1. What has been your favorite date so far?

Horseback riding in the mountains of Kentucky. That was also the date where we first said, "I love you".

2.  What is your favorite holiday?

Christmas. It's the one time of the year where everyone is happy and all the family is together.

3.  How many kids do you plan to have?

Eight. I know everyone thinks we're crazy, but that's okay.

4. What is your favorite hobby?

Anything that lets me work with my hands! Whether it be in the kitchen or some kind of project around the house.

5.  What is something that Paul does that drives you nuts?

***Let the records show that this is a question Shelby didn't answer. We'll check back with her in a couple of months. I'm pretty sure she'll be able to answer it by then.

6.  What's your favorite meal to cook?

Roasted chicken with roasted vegetables.

7. Have you botched a meal since you've been married?

Yes! I decided to change things up and use a new seasoning ... let's just say that I won't be using it again!

8. How long does it take you to get ready in the morning?

About an hour to an hour and a half, depending on what I decided to do with my hair. LOL

9. Are you a morning person or a night owl?

I used to be a night owl, then I went to college. Now I'm some kind of permanently exhausted pigeon! LOL

10. Which of the seven dwarfs do you most identify with?

Definitely Bashful.

11. How do you like the north so far?

It's different lol. This time of year seems to be very gloomy.

12. What did you think of the Boyd family when you first met them?

WOW!! That's a lot of personality in one room!

13. What did you think of Paul when you first met him?

Wow! He's handsome ... he has a wonderful personality too, and did I mention how handsome he is?

14. What was it like going from one sister to now a bunch of annoying brothers-in-law?

Well, it really wasn't that hard to adjust to lol because I have six male cousins that I'm very close to.

15. If you had $500 to spend on yourself (no bills and nothing for hubby) what would you spend it on?

Animals! Specifically turkeys ... or maybe a puppy. It's a difficult decision ... but definitely something animal related!

And there you have it. The woman Paul married. We're all getting to know her better, and she's fitting right in. She and Paul are already expanding their family ... they bought some fish this past week.

So, got any questions for Shelby?

Comfortable Situations

Last week I blogged about ways to help when people are going through a crisis. One of the things I mentioned was making comfort food. Since last Friday, the topic of comfort has come up several times so I thought I'd ask about a few things that bring you comfort. Answer one or answer all. My answers are in the comments.

1.  What is your comfort food?

2.  Who is your go-to person when you need comfort?

3.  What's your most comfortable item of clothing?

4.  Are you more comfortable in a crowd or at home by yourself?

5.  Are you comfortable speaking publicly, or are you more comfortable with fading into the background?

6.  In a vehicle, are you more comfortable driving or riding?

7.  Which makes you more uncomfortable -- spending money or stashing it away?

8.  What kind of animal are you most comfortable around?

9.  Are you more comfortable giving orders or following orders?

10. Do you feel better wearing shoes or going barefoot?

Once you've finished this list, are you comfortable with your answers, or are you going to go through your day saying to yourself, "Oh! That's what I should have answered for my comfort food!"?

Thanks for answering, and have a "comfortable" weekend!

Happy Thoughts Thursday

So you've made it through half the week, but it's still not Friday yet. Sometimes by Thursday you need a little lift to make it to the weekend.

Our solution? Happy Thought Thursday. On Tuesdays you can drop a pet peeve or an irritation. On Thursdays, give us a praise, a thankfulness, or something that just makes you happy. Your contributions on Thursday can be deep and spiritual, such as thankfulness for your salvation, or as shallow as a cup of coffee or a good hair day.  Here are our happy thoughts for this week:

Stephanie:  we have been so blessed!!

Kylee: sleep!

Jill:  I’m thankful for good friends!

what about you? What makes you happy today?

My Cup Runneth Over!

On Monday, our family was working at the church together. My husband was studying in his office and the girls and I were working in another part of the church building. My little Talia had snuck off and managed to find her way back to her daddy’s office to spend some time with him. I had been thinking to myself, she had been gone for a while, it seemed like maybe she got lost. I was almost finished with my work and then we were headed back to the office ourselves. Once I had made it back to the office, My husband looked at me and then looked at Talia and said, “ Do you want to tell mom what you did? “ I immediately thought, what did she do now? What am I going to have to clean up? Neither of them said anything they just stared at each other. At this point I was really curious. You could tell she wanted to tell me, she just didn’t know how. She looked happy but at the same time she looked like she was going to cry. Matt prompted her so she could tell me and she said that she asked Jesus into her heart to save her. She was tearing up because she didn’t want to go to Hell when she dies, she wanted to go to Heaven.

I am overwhelmed with happiness that not one of my children but now two  have trusted Christ to take them to Heaven when they die.

After Talia had told us what she had done, I asked Stella where Talia’s name was going to go because she just went over it in school? It was a perfect opportunity to make sure she was paying attention. Her answer: The lamb’s Life Book!

Philippians 4:8
Rejoice in the Lord always: and again I say, Rejoice.

Testy Tuesdays

It's that time again. Just below are the pet peeves that are driving us crazy this week. Add your own in the comments, or ditto someone else. Commiserate with each other, blow off steam and go on your merry way.

Kylee: Pointless things people share on Facebook.

Stephanie: can I ditto, kylee, because social media in general has been quite annoying this week!!

Jill:  When people have a major heart attack and then don’t slow down and recuperate like they should.

Now it's your turn. What's bugging you?
